johnson dog door replacement flap pride dog door made in the USA

Pride flaps are black rubber two piece assemblies. The parts are not available separately, they are sold together. These flaps are generally quite durable and often times the flap size is completely worn off, in which case you will need to measure the flap to see which one you need. We measure inside of the U shaped part of the flap which is the smallest hole that your pet needs to go through. If you measure the outside of the flap you will end up with the wrong flap, so be careful.

Pride flaps are a direct replacement for Johnson and Pet Safe doors with 2 piece flaps for medium and larger sizes. Although this isn't the best picture, the Pride flaps have the same center flap and U shaped flap. M-2 or medium is the same as MD400A, L-2 or large is the same as LD500A, and XL-4 or extra large is the same as XLD600A.

We have had just a handful of out of hundreds of customers tell us that their MD400 flap didn't fit a plastic framed Johnson door correctly. The flap can be trimmed to work if you'd rather not replace the door. We did have one customer who said that the MD400 flap was too long for his Johnson panel pet door for a sliding door and he ended up returning it.

The S-2 or small flap is similar in size to the SD300A but mounts differently.

Pride uses Masonite or pressboard locking covers, these covers do not fit Johnson doggy doors.

This is the 4th time I have had to replace this doggy door. I have a Lab and this item just does not hold up. It has broken in the same lower bottom corners every time. II was able to use black duck tape to patch them for a while but that only works for so long. I would replace but the door cut out is bigger than any other doggy doors I have looked at.

PDS RESPONSE--The Johnson and Pride flaps have a problem sometimes when a pet charges through at full speed. What happens is the center flap pushes through the outer U shaped part, and then the dog gets the U part around their neck, and when they try to go through it *should* pull the flap out of the frame. These flaps have a slit at the top corners so that they don't tear at the bottom. We've seen several customers use bolts, washers, and nuts so that they can really tighten this up and the flap doesn't pull out, and that's typically when they tear at the bottom.

The solution is to loosen up the screws so that the flap can pull out without breaking, although that leaves you putting the flap back in over and over. If you don't want to be putting the flap back in all the time, then you can replace the whole door. I checked and you have an XL door, which has a really wide hole, but you could use a larger extra large size from a different manufacturer such as Ruff Weather, Royal, or Hale and just cut the hole bigger. We can have the Hale custom built to fit the same opening as the current door so that you don't have to modify the hole.

We also sell just the U part of the flap separately, so no need to buy the center part again and again.

I have an older Johnson pet door and this was a close replacement for the worn out original two piece flap. I did have to modify this new flap by cutting 1/4 inch from the sides and bottom on a table saw to make it function properly. The new flap is stiffer and my cat had trouble going in and out but learn he needs to use extra effort, my dog had not problems adapting to the stiffer material. Over all a very good by, sure beats having to totally replace the pet door.
