Product Overview

Ideal Screen Guard dog doors attach to your existing wire mesh screen protector and this makes it strong enough for use with large dogs

  • Mounts on sliding screens with guards or grates
  • Works on swinging screens with sheet metal kick plates
  • Simple installation
  • White plastic frame
  • Vinyl flap
  • Comes with locking cover
  • Sturdy enough for medium and large dogs

Do you have a screen door with a protective grate or guard over the bottom half? How about a swinging screen door that has a tall sheet metal kick plate at the bottom? These guards and kick plates are great for keeping hands and feet from pushing through the screen, but they have always been an issue for people who wanted a pet door. No longer! This door installs right to the grate or plate, and seals the screen under the pet door frame in the case of the screen guard. The Ideal dog door  is sturdy enough for large dogs to use, and much stronger than a pet door which just attaches to the screen mesh itself.

The Ideal Screen Guard dog door is one of two dog doors that we recommend for large breeds in screen doors. If you don't have a guard on your screen but need a doggy door for a larger or more active breed, look at the Hale pet door.

Ideal has two sizes for this pet door, medium and extra large. Their medium door fits dogs to about 30 lbs, and their extra large is just a hair smaller than most other larges on the market, so we would say that it is good to about 70 lbs.

    Sturdy dog door

I have never purchased a dog door before, but I can tell you that this one is very good quality. It is the one and only that I could find online made specifically for to be used with a screen door guard grate.

had a friend install it on my kick plate.
One puppy has no problem, the other is reluctant to push it open. oh well. I leave it propped up. Hope he'll learn someday. Worth the investment.
