For years Ideal has had no large size, they went from medium to XL. In December 2022 they changed the sizing so that XL is now Large and Super Large is now XL. If you are an existing owner and need flaps or a new door, use the flap dimensions to avoid any confusion.

The Ideal Ruff Weather door is a plastic framed pet door with dual clear vinyl flaps. Increasing the distance between the flaps provides more insulating dead air space. Ideal accomplished this by manufacturing a thick plastic frame. The frame protrudes from the door it is mounted on by about 2½ inches on the inside and 2½ inches on the outside. The flaps are mounted at the outermost part of the frame. This creates about 7 inches of dead air space in between the flaps when it is installed in a regular door. 

The plastic frame will not corrode like an aluminum door in high salinity environments, such as near the ocean. The two flaps are sealed to the frame with pile weather strips, and the door comes with locking cover tracks for the inside and outside frames (one locking cover ships with the door). Limited lifetime warranty.

This door is more weather tight than cheaper models that you might find at the local pet store, but not as weather tight as doors with magnets on sides and bottom.

    Bought this a replacement for the same model that lasted us about 12 years. You do have to have some patience with the install as it will take some trial an error to get the mounting bolts trimmed to the correct length if you are going to install it in a wall, but once its in, it should last you awhile. I also like that this model has the option to use the slide in blocker on either side. Also, huge shout out to Jon for the military discount and getting this shipped out to us ASAP!

    The door is great. It's made of sturdy material and is easy to install. The wall tunnel I bought with it is not so great. The sections that are designed to press together don't stay together very well. The buttons meant to lock the sides in place don't stay in, whether you press them in or tap them with a hammer. Overall, I highly recommend this product!

    Has the door for a couple of months now. It looks great and works great so far. Interested to see how it handles the AZ heat in the summer though.
