High Tech has been around for more than 25 years and we have carried them for about 15, but they have significantly upped their game and really improved their long-selling electronic pet door as of 2026. The new upgraded version uses a roll up flap instead of a rigid one.

The old, rigid flap required that the unit be twice as tall as the pet door opening to accommodate the flap sliding up and down. Since it now rolls up, much less space is used on the door or wall where it is installed, and the flap sizes are now larger and will fit a larger variety of pets, and also work much better for pet owners who have a large dog and a small dog or a cat. The XL size is pretty generous, High Tech says good to 125 lbs, we think maybe a little bigger if they're tall and skinny. If you're pushing the upper end of the XL, the best thing to do is test it. Get a piece of cardboard, cut a hole the size of the flap and stick it in a doorway and make sure it will work for you.

The same MS-5 waterproof collar key from the previous door is retained. It is an ultrasonic collar key that makes a noise too high in frequency for dogs or people to hear. The door itself has electronic "ears" that listen for the sound and open when they hear it. You can adjust the sensitivity of the ear and inside and out independently. The collars look big in the pictures, but they aren't. The dimension of the actual transmitter is 1.75" x .75" x .5" and even a small dog can carry it without any trouble.

You can set the doggy door for open, locked, in only, or out only (all of these open settings still require a key). Push buttons on the door itself change the lock settings, or by connecting the pet door to your WiFi network and using High Tech's app you can control the door remotely to change the lock and unlock settings and to see which pets are in or out of the house at a given time.

The door comes with a 110V power plug and a backup battery is available if desired.

The same motorized dog door unit is used for door and wall installations, with an accessory tunnel required for the wall. A single tunnel kit will do walls up to 6" thick, you can double up for thicker walls, up to 12".
